Turkmenistan plans to begin the reconstruction of the key Ashgabat–Dashoguz highway in 2026. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov made the announcement at a regular meeting of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan held on Wednesday, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.

The Head of State noted that, in order to modernize the country’s roads and bring them into line with international standards, Turkmenistan is steadily strengthening the material and technical capacity of the relevant sector. Work is also continuing effectively on the construction of highways of national importance.

This year, the Mary–Turkmenabat section of the Ashgabat–Turkmenabat motorway, which has a total length of 600 kilometers, was commissioned. Meanwhile, construction of the highway along the Turkmenbashi–Garabogaz–Kazakhstan border route is progressing at an accelerated pace.

The President of Turkmenistan also emphasized the importance of increasing the capacity of the country’s transport system, as well as expanding transit and international freight transportation.
