Turkmenistan offers investors railway modernization projects

Turkmenistan is inviting international investors and financial institutions to participate in projects aimed at modernizing the country’s railway infrastructure and strengthening its transport and logistics potential.

Speaking in Ashgabat during the Turkmenistan Investment Forum, Turkmenistan’s Minister of railway transport M. Akmammedov said that the key areas of cooperation include upgrading locomotive and rolling stock fleets, constructing dry ports and container terminals, and developing multimodal transportation.

A separate priority is the introduction of resource-saving technologies, railway electrification, and the transition to environmentally sustainable transport standards. Further digitalization of the sector is also planned, including electronic document management, digital waybills, and platforms for real-time cargo tracking.

Particular importance is being attached to the development of the Trans-Caspian route. The integration of railway infrastructure with the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi creates opportunities for establishing end-to-end logistics chains and improving the efficiency of freight transportation.

According to the minister, Turkmenistan occupies a strategic position at the intersection of the North–South and East–West transport corridors. The Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran railway provides Central Asian countries and Russia with access to the ports of the Persian Gulf, while the country’s transport infrastructure also contributes to the development of freight routes connecting China and Asia-Pacific countries with European markets.

As Akmammedov noted, Turkmenistan is ready for long-term cooperation with investors and logistics operators and offers opportunities for implementing major joint projects in the transport sector.
