Reconstruction of the “Serhetabat” customs post on the Turkmen-Afghan border has begun.

The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan is overseeing the construction work.

The reconstruction includes modernization of the existing building and the construction of several new buildings and structures, according to the customs service's website.

The reconstruction will also include the installation of a new X-ray inspection machine for vehicles.

As a result, the customs checkpoint's throughput capacity is planned to increase to 500 vehicles per day. This is 2.5 times greater than the current design capacity of the customs post.

Construction work will be carried out by the Sapaly Gelcek business entity between 2025 and 2027.

As the source notes, the “Serhetabat” customs post is one of the most important customs points in Turkmenistan's foreign trade turnover and for the transportation of transit cargo along the “Lazurite” and a number of other international transport corridors.
