Iranian authorities are considering the development of cargo transportation through the northern part of the country and the Caspian Sea, the Fars news agency reports.

The initiative, referred to by experts as the “Caspian Express,” is aimed at minimizing logistics costs and establishing a reliable alternative route for delivering goods to the countries of Central Asia and the wider Eurasian region.

The project envisages the active use of the port infrastructure of Anzali, Amirabad and Nowshahr, from which cargo would be transported across the Caspian Sea to the ports of partner countries.

The expansion of the “northern leg” of Iran’s exports creates new opportunities for the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, which serves as a key logistics hub at the intersection of the North–South and East–West transport corridors.
