Turkmenistan to Modernise the Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi Railway
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has approved plans to modernise the Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi railway. The proposal was presented by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Mammetkhan Chakyev at a government meeting. The project will be implemented as part of broader programmes aimed at developing the country’s transport and communications system.
The railway is a vital route linking the regions of Turkmenistan with the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and plays an important role in integrating national railways into international transport corridors, including Lapis Lazuli, TRACECA, North–South and East–West. The Head of State highlighted the importance of strengthening transit capacity and instructed that practical steps be taken to implement the modernisation project.
