Turkmenistan to Host 2026 CIS Heads of Government Council Meeting

The meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government was held on September 29 in Minsk. Following the event, it was decided that the next session will take place in the first half of 2026 in Ashgabat.

This decision highlights Turkmenistan’s growing role as a key platform for political and economic dialogue in the region, according to official Turkmen media reports released on Tuesday.

The Turkmen delegation at the meeting was led by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Hojamyrat Geldimyradov.

The agenda included 15 items, with particular significance for Turkmenistan placed on documents concerning the digitalization strategy for multimodal transport corridors and the implementation plan for the second phase of the CIS Economic Development Strategy through 2030. These initiatives aim to strengthen the country’s transit potential and advance its digital economy.

Participants also approved the CIS Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development through 2035, a cooperation framework for the information society and digital economy, as well as agreements on construction standardization and coordinated measures against locust pests.

The adopted decisions outlined the Commonwealth’s long-term priorities and reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s status as a vital partner actively contributing to shaping the region’s future.
