During the working visit to Afghanistan, National Leader of the Turkmen People Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held talks with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Afghanistan for Economic Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar.

Energy cooperation was a key focus of the talks. The sides discussed advancing the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, as well as the development of electricity and digital infrastructure. The importance of the Serhetabat–Herat section to the project was also highlighted.

Türkmengaz and Afghan Gas signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The document provides for joint efforts to develop gas infrastructure in Herat Province and supply Turkmen gas to industrial enterprises, power plants and the population.

In the transport sector, the sides discussed the development of the Lapis Lazuli Corridor linking Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, as well as the role of the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi in expanding regional freight flows.

In addition, Turkmenistan proposed establishing a Turkmen-Afghan Commission on Economic Cooperation and expanding cooperation in professional training, including the training of specialists for the gas industry.
