Turkmenistan Discusses Country Agreement Draft with European Investment Bank
The delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by the Minister of Finance and Economy, Mammetguly Astanagulov, took part in the second “Global Gateway 2025” Forum held in Brussels. The event focused on strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships and advancing sustainable infrastructure connectivity at the global level. The official programme of the forum included keynote speeches by heads of state and thematic sessions on energy, transport, the digital agenda, and industrial competitiveness.
The Forum was launched by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. Welcoming remarks were delivered by High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas, while closing remarks were presented by EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela.
The Forum featured a series of panel discussions and working sessions, including a section dedicated to scaling up the flagship Global Gateway projects, such as expanding hydropower potential in Central Asia, developing transport connectivity, and advancing green shipping corridors. Within the framework of expanding financial instruments, the Team Europe initiative and its partners announced the deepening of cooperation with international development banks, including the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), to mobilize investments in infrastructure and job creation, with a particular focus on increasing investments in energy projects in Central Asia.
On the margins of the event, the Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan held a meeting with representatives of the EIB. The parties discussed practical aspects of cooperation and the draft of a country-level agreement, as well as EIB participation in the LLDC3 Conference in Avaza. The contacts with the EIB are fully aligned with the Forum’s priorities, including the launch and expansion of investments in energy and infrastructure projects under the Team Europe initiative and through international financial institutions.
On the first day of the Forum, a working dinner for heads of delegations was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela, where the Turkmen side had the opportunity to exchange views with the European Commission leadership on current issues of cooperation.
The participation of the Turkmen delegation in the “Global Gateway 2025” Forum contributed to a substantive exchange on financing sustainable infrastructure and expanded direct working contacts with EU institutions and international financial organizations.
