The parliaments of Turkmenistan and Russia signed a cooperation agreement.

The Turkmen delegation, headed by the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, paid an official visit to the Russian Federation and visited the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, where the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan signed the Book of Honored Guests.

Following this, a meeting took place between the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, D. Gulmanova, and the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko.

During the meeting, the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the esteemed President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag.

D. Gulmanova expressed confidence that the meetings and talks held during the visit would contribute to the further strengthening of bilateral interparliamentary relations. The sides highly appreciated the level of interparliamentary cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation and confirmed their readiness to further develop it in all areas.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of interparliamentary relations established between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation. In particular, as an example of the continuation of traditional principles, the participation of the Turkmen side as a guest in the events of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States was noted.

The parties emphasized the significant role of cooperation between the two states in the international legal sphere for the further development of large-scale, equal, and mutually beneficial relations between the countries. Such cooperation contributes to strengthening friendly ties between the peoples and supporting interstate partnerships through parliamentary diplomacy.

During the talks, the importance of enhancing the activities of the interparliamentary friendship group was highlighted. This group promotes the development of interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries, strengthens relations between relevant committees, young and women parliamentarians, and facilitates the organization of meetings and conferences at the parliamentary level.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a signing ceremony took place for the Agreement on Cooperation between the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. This Agreement is aimed at giving new impetus to cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.
