Startup Competitions in Turkmenistan: A Step Toward Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Another startup competition under the inspiring title “Turkmenistan – Land of Opportunities” was recently held in Ashgabat. The event was organized by the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan with the support of Ojar Asia Private Enterprise. The competition covered a wide range of thematic areas — from environmental initiatives and digital technologies to social innovations.
Startup competitions in Turkmenistan are not merely contests of ideas — they serve as comprehensive platforms that bring together talented youth, students, entrepreneurs, investors, and government representatives.
The event drew the attention of members of the Mejlis (Parliament), representatives of the Ministry of Finance, members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the banking sector, and business community, underlining its significance for the national economy.
Support from the government and the organizers enabled young startupers not only to present their ideas, but also to receive valuable feedback from experts and investors, as well as tangible support that opens the way for real implementation.
The competition became a showcase for a diverse range of ideas that not only address pressing challenges but also demonstrate the creativity and technical expertise of the participants. Among the presented projects were:
- Renewable Energy: Use of solar and wind energy to develop environmentally friendly solutions suited for a region rich in natural resources.
- Central Asian Music Platform: A regional analogue of Spotify, promoting the cultural and musical traditions of Central Asian countries.
- Eco-Friendly Products: Antiseptics, cosmetics, and other goods produced in accordance with ecological standards.
- Logistics Solutions: Optimization of transportation processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Leather Substitute Products: Sustainable alternatives to natural leather for use in fashion and design.
- Digital Notebook: An educational tech solution designed to simplify the learning process in schools and universities.
- Greenhouse Technologies: AI-powered automation systems for greenhouses, aimed at increasing agricultural productivity by 15–20%.
- Visual Content Platform: A tool for creative industries to simplify content creation and promotion.
- Text Error Checker: Software that automatically detects textual errors — a valuable tool for publishers.
- HydroFlow: A technology that reduces water loss in agriculture by up to 20%, which is especially important for Turkmenistan's arid regions.
- Polonium Wood: Use of innovative materials for construction and interior design.
- Bone Powder: An eco-friendly product for fertilizers and medical implants that reduces dependency on imports.
- Eco-Textiles: Recycling of textile waste to create fashionable and comfortable clothing.
These projects not only reflect a broad range of ideas but also highlight the participants' commitment to tackling environmental, social, and economic challenges relevant to both Turkmenistan and the broader region.
