FAO to Open a Country Office in Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, held talks with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, during which the parties reaffirmed their commitment to expanding practical cooperation, implementing joint programmes, and holding regional conferences on food security. Particular attention was given to sustainable development, environmental protection, and climate change, as well as Turkmenistan’s initiatives to establish regional centres on combating desertification and climate-related technologies in Central Asia.
A key outcome of the meeting was the signing of an Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and FAO on the establishment of an FAO country office in Turkmenistan and the provision of technical assistance. The sides also discussed the development of a new Country Programming Framework for 2026–2030 aimed at strengthening structured cooperation in the agricultural and food sectors.
