
Ashgabat will host the meeting of the Council for Rail Transport of the CIS in 2026.
Today, railway transport plays an important role in the international transport system and serves as a solid foundation for stable economic relations between states. In this regard, the activities of the Council for Rail Transport of the CIS member states are of particular importance, as they make it possible to coordinate the interaction of railway administrations of the CIS member states in this field.
As a result of the membership of the Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan in the Council for Rail Transport of the CIS member states since 1992, mutually beneficial cooperation has been established within this organization with a number of foreign countries and organizations on issues related to coordinated transportation on national railways, the implementation of a harmonized transport policy at the regional level, as well as the economic, informational, scientific-technical, and environmental aspects of railway transport. The Council for Rail Transport of the CIS member states brings together 16 members.
Recently, the Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan received a letter from the Directorate of the Council for Rail Transport of the CIS member states.
According to the content of the letter, it was proposed to consider the possibility of holding the 84th meeting of the Council for Rail Transport of the CIS member states in Turkmenistan in May–June 2026.
In accordance with the Regulations on the Council for Rail Transport of the CIS member states, the Council holds its meetings twice a year with the participation of the heads of railway transport administrations of the CIS member states. The 57th meeting of the Council was last held in Ashgabat on October 16–17, 2012.
The 83rd meeting of the Council is planned to be held in Baku, the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on November 25–26, 2025, during which the venue and date of the next 84th meeting of the Council are to be determined.
In accordance with the agenda, the meetings discuss the implementation of previously adopted decisions, the performance and efficiency of railway transport administrations in the field of international freight and passenger transportation, as well as plans for the scheduling of passenger, freight, and container trains, pricing policy, and the settlement of mutual accounts between railway transport administrations.
Ashgabat has approved the proposal to hold the 84th meeting of the Council for Rail Transport of the CIS member states in Turkmenistan in May–June 2026. In turn, the Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan will carry out the necessary preparatory work. This will serve as yet another testament to the high international standing of our country.
