Turkmenistan and the United Nations Reinforce Dialogue on Peace and Trust
On December 8, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, met with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, Kaha Imnadze. The parties exchanged warm greetings and emphasised the enduring nature of Turkmenistan’s partnership with the United Nations, noting in particular the country’s significant contribution to promoting peace, trust, and preventive diplomacy. Special attention was drawn to the concurrence of two landmark anniversaries – the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality and the 80th anniversary of the United Nations – as well as to the pivotal role of the initiatives advanced by the National Leader, including the designation of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust.
During the meeting, it was underscored that numerous events dedicated to strengthening peace and sustainable development had been held throughout the year, both in Turkmenistan and abroad. Particular focus was placed on the forthcoming International Forum in Ashgabat, which will serve as the year’s concluding event and as an important platform for addressing the global agenda. Kaha Imnadze expressed his gratitude for Turkmenistan’s continued support of the Regional Centre’s work and reaffirmed his readiness to further develop constructive cooperation, grounded in longstanding successful partnership and a shared commitment to enhancing stability in Central Asia.
