President of Turkmenistan outlined key foreign policy priorities for 2026
At an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov presented the key foreign policy guidelines for Turkmenistan in 2026. He emphasized that the country's diplomatic activities are based on its status of permanent neutrality and the Foreign Policy Concept for 2022–2028.
The head of state noted that 2025 was unique due to the coincidence of three dates: the 80th anniversary of the UN, the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality, and the International Year of Peace and Trust. During this period, Turkmenistan advanced a number of important initiatives, including the adoption of UN General Assembly resolutions reaffirming the country's neutral status and supporting its international endeavors.
Among the significant events of the year, the President highlighted the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held in Avaza, as well as the adoption of a new programmatic agenda for 2024–2034.
The President emphasized that in 2026, Turkmenistan will focus its efforts on the practical implementation of UN resolutions, intensifying cooperation with neighboring states, Central Asian countries, and the Caspian region, as well as partnerships within the ECO, with South Asia, the Middle East, the Asia-Pacific region, and European countries. Priorities include the development of high technology, green energy, digital solutions, and participation in the expansion of transport and logistics corridors.
Special attention will be paid to preparations for major international events in 2026: the 35th anniversary of independence, the 8th Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Leaders, Turkmenistan's chairmanship of the CIS, and the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Ashgabat.
Concluding his speech, the President expressed confidence that Turkmen diplomats will continue to effectively promote the country's interests and strengthen its international authority.
