On 11th of February 2026, Berlin hosted the first ministerial meeting in the C5+1 format (Germany and Central Asia), focused on strengthening interregional cooperation and partnership with Europe. Delegations from the five Central Asian countries were received at Bellevue Palace and the German Foreign Office.

The talks brought together the foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan. The participation of the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, Eduards Stiprais, highlighted the European approach within the framework of the “Team Europe” initiative.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier received the Central Asian delegations. Discussions focused on energy security, critical raw materials, the situation in Afghanistan and water resource management, while the meeting also served as preparation for an upcoming summit of heads of state and government.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of the Berlin Declaration, confirming Central Asia’s role as a “preferred partner” of Germany. Germany allocated €2.7 million to support the coordination platform of the Trans-Caspian Corridor and earmarked €250 million for renewable energy and decarbonisation projects. Plans also include expanded cooperation in science, innovation and education, development of the PASCH school network, and border security projects with the OSCE. An economic forum held alongside the meeting brought together 30 German companies interested in investing in Turkmenistan.
