9th EU–Turkmenistan Interparliamentary Meeting Held in Brussels
On 5 March, the 9th EU–Turkmenistan Interparliamentary Meeting took place at the European Parliament in Brussels, where participants discussed political and economic cooperation, the regional agenda of Central Asia, and current international developments.
The Turkmen delegation was led by Maksat Kuliyev, Chair of the Committee of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan on International and Interparliamentary Relations. The meeting from the European Parliament side was chaired by Giuseppina Princi, Head of the European Parliament Delegation for Relations with the countries of Central Asia.
The parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, education, and scientific programmes. The Turkmen side also highlighted national initiatives related to sustainable development, energy, environmental issues, and the expansion of renewable energy sources, as well as the importance of transport connectivity and the role of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport in regional transport corridors.
Particular attention was given to issues of regional stability in Central Asia. It was noted that Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality contributes to strengthening peace and promoting regional cooperation.
Following the meeting, the participants reaffirmed their commitment to further developing interparliamentary dialogue. The next meeting is expected to be held in Ashgabat at the beginning of next year.
